January 2022 marked the fiftieth anniversary of one of the most tragic events of the Northern Ireland 'Troubles', as the years of armed conflict that plagued the region between 1968 and 1998 are known. On 30 January 1972, the British army opened fire on a demonstration in the streets of Londonderry, killing 14 people and injuring around fifteen others.
