Unicorn poops

FLORENT – MIELLERIE GAILLARDON & AGNÈS – L’ILÔT SAFRAN

Not every Fontenautes is human. They can also be animals, plants, or even mystic creatures.

Several unicorns were seen in the forest of Mervent. Even though it’s quite hard to come near them, we can savour their poops. They have an exquisite taste of honey with a hint of saffron.

The cuvées of the Fairies tree

Mathieu - Domaine Coirier

The fairies tree is a cedar that was planted 150 years ago in the yard of the Domaine Coirier.

The cedars of Liban are very important in mythologies since they are a symbol of eternal life, the doors made of cedar used to create an opening toward other worlds.

The region is quite known to be friend with the fairies such as the fairy Mélusine.

The cuvées of the Fairies tree :
Dry white wine is a blend of the Chenin’s strength and the Chardonnay fruity taste. Made from Gamay the rosé wine is very refreshing, with the taste of mixed berries flavour. The red wine is a blend of Pinot noir and Cabernet that will go perfectly with fowl or even grilled food.

The wines are available in the Tourist Office shops of Fontenay-le-Comte and Vouvant – Bottle of 75cl : 9,50 €

Chainsaw delicacy

Christophe - Les Ateliers du Goût

The “chainsaw delicacy” are biscuits made from strong chocolate, like the Fontenaute who created it, the sculptor Eugène Racine (1899-1973), who lived all his life in Foussais-Payré.

While he came back with all of the other Fontenautes, he materialized only by his voice.

There’s a saying that goes that every year, he cames to whisper at the contestants of the symposium of chainsaw woodcarver’s ears. He also gave to Christophe Moreau the recipe for the “Chainsaw delicacy”.

Chainsaw delicacy is available in the Tourist Office shops of Fontenay-le-Comte and Vouvant. Bag of 250g : 5,70 €

The beer of François Viète

Maxime - Brasserie La Cibulle

The beer of “François Viète” is a tribute to the famous mathematician and astronomer of the Renaissance, who like the others, came back recently to Fontenay.

He collaborated with the brewery La Cibulle to create this recipe of beer. Its amber type is particularly suitable for the brilliant mind, the science fan and the Vendéen starry sky lovers.

The beer François Viète is available in the Tourist Office shops of Fontenay-le-Comte and Vouvant. Bottle of 33cl : 2,60 €

The Saturday Préfou of Mélusine

Marie - La Lutine

Saturdays are hard for Mélusine since it’s on this day that she is forced to change into a half snake woman.

When she came back in our time with the other Fontenautes, the Préfou of la Lutine was the only thing that cheered her up !

Created in Fontaines and the surrounding villages to “the gate of the marsh”, this vendéen specialty is a delight.

To keep the freshness of the product, the Préfou isn’t sold at the Tourist Office.
You can buy it directly at the bakery La Lutine in l’Orbrie, Fontenay-le-Comte, Pissotte and Fontaines.

Soap “Secret of Mélusine”

Hélène - La Savonnerie Fontenaisienne

Mélusine’s biggest secret is not her snake tail.

No, it’s her soap recipe that she created mixing castor oil to enhance the beauty of her hair and horsetail oil to soften her snake skin.

Raymondin, her husband, was a fan of its herbaceous, sunny, and very aquatic smell. He often stole it for his bath… You most certainly will do the same !
