Vendée’s wooded countryside

A patchwork of greens

The wooded countryside surrounding La Châtaigneraie and offering a nice landscape was shaped during the Middle Age by men. It is characterized by meadows, hedges, green lanes, some farms and villages. Forests and woods can be found in this scenery, as well as dells and hills crossed by several rivers like the “grand Lay”, the “petit lay”, the “Vendée” and the “Mère”.

Keep your feet on the ground but your eyes in the stars

The time has come to put on your hiking shoes to try the different walking trails of the wooded countryside, its biking loops and horse-riding routes. On your way, don’t forget to stop in order to enjoy a little snack and a drink.

At night, in a small village of the wooded countryside, take your time to lay down and look at the stars, the galaxy, and the satellite. In this area the light pollution is low, which is why you can make the most of it while gazing at the stars and delight in its scenery.

Clemenceau-De Lattre National Museum

Mouilleron-en-Pared, now Mouilleron-Saint-Germain, is a village at the border between the wooded countryside and the plains. There, you’ll find the houses of two great Frenchmen who marked the History of France : Georges Clemenceau and Jean de Lattre de Tassigny.
