Biking through the Poitevin marsh is a mix of small roads lost in the marsh, or nice little harbours and small villages.
Under the ash tree shadows, those paths hug the canals of the “Parc naturel Régional du Marais poitevin”.

What if you choose to do ride a bike with someone to guide you ? “Original Vélo Tour” offers different guided rides on ecotourism and cultural tourism or even culinary discoveries.
The tours are organized in small group which are accessible for everyone : families will be able to rent children bikes or even a trailer for the toddlers. All bikes are non-electric.
These guided rides take place in the south of Vendée in the Poitevin marsh. You can combine it with a boat ride or with a visit to a local producer and even have a tasting.
The Transfontenaysienne is a loop of 7 kms through Fontenay-le-Comte which allow you to go to the Mervent-Vouvant’s forest and the Poitevin marsh. Those paths are linked to the network of the Vendée Vélo. They blend into the route of the historical city centre.
It’s an easy ride to do, and it’s perfect for families. The starting point is the tourist office, you will need around 45 minutes to do the three sections. The path is marked both ways.
The first section of the Transfontenaysienne will take you near the river Vendée until the jardins familiaux. The second one cross the former train station’s district and offers a nice view of the Saint-Jean and Notre-Dame churches. The last one gives you the opportunity to explore the Seillot valley and its bucolic landscape.
The “Transfontenaysienne” is linked to the green lane and starts near the camper van parking in Fontenay-le-Comte and ends at Velluire-sur-Vendée in the Poitevin marsh. This 13,5 kms ride has a large portion along the river Vendée.
